This is only part of the building, it is separated into 3 parcels. It was donated by the owner to the GRCC Grand River Creative Corridor project, which is a collaborative effort 4731 gallery is working with. The group that has been using this building plans to bid. I personally love the murals they are creating on this stretch.

jean Do u have any more info to the company that is using the building. I really wanted to get my hands on this building i have great plans for it but i want to see what they wanted to do with it and see if we can come to an agreement instead of a war.

Bizzness they have great plans too and are already doing it, such as the creative corridor. I believe in it so much that I am partnering up with them, so I guess that I'm the one you need to talk with. A bidding war between us would be most unfortunate indeed.

I had my finger on the button to buy this property in the first round, but was waiting to see if it went to the second to save money. Im picking it up and repairing the inside immediately. I like what GRCC has done and dont plan on interfering. Jeanofarc, we should talk. Do you have contact info?

Anonymous and others interested, this building has already been worked on quite a bit and programs and events are being run out of there. It was put together with community effort to be the "headquarters" of GRCC and programs for youth and families. It is a successful business already. The scores of people that put their sweat and muscle toward it were operating under an understanding that the taxes were kept up by the donor. Learning that its up on auction with interested parties who can outbid them has come as a shock to the organizers and put them in a catastrophic position.
Of course it would be to their best interest to bid 500 over having to pay the back taxes and so that was the solution until the interest from other bidders came in, regardless of the situation here.
Sorry to be so long and blunt; but please consider these facts about this property. It was donated by Automotive supply to Motorcity blight busters so that Mel could buy it and bequeath the building to MIMS who organized the GRCC. He got the neighboring community involved and rebuilt it with them, not hired outside contractors with his day job. This is his 24/7 job, one of the most dedicated and effective activists we have in 08. This building, the effort and the people are now a cohesive love of the members of the community, best thing they've had in a long time.
Before GRCC happened, it was a dark, unfriendly, barren dangerous corridor with absolutely nothing happening in the long stretch from liquor store to party store, although neighboring core city and woodbridge was relatively quiet and pleasant. Most crime came from Grand River and the spaces in and around the empty industrial buildings. There was certainly nothing to do there. But now there is activity happening with plans for expansion and the area is really picking up, even just with the murals. People stop and take pictures now.
But that is only happening because of the work that has done allowing activity to happen at 4309 Grand river.
What are your options? To buy it anyway, maybe pay off the occupyers and then how will you be received by the neighborhood? Those who supported and endorsed the previous project that brought together their community will learn that you bought him out of it (as they experience the vacuum they feel), As people will be stopping in while you work, you can be sure that you are going to find yourself in the face of a some difficult questions to respond to, over and over again.
I can understand it is really tempting because this building is secure and clean over the abandoned ones on the list. The convenience could be misleading as there are other factors to keep in mind, please weigh them.
If you are going to conduct a complete renovation customized for your purpose anyway, and you certainly will need to here, why not use your dollars and actions to vote for neighborhood improvement, purchase something no one is doing anything positive in. Everyone will love you for that. Love is power, and I wish for you both and luck too.

Hi Jean ,
I do not understand this. The taxes for this building are only $6400 total. Why don't you guys just redeem this and then you won't have this problem. You do understand you will only have to pay a portion of that , the first year plus interest and penalties , less than $3,000 and the county will make arrangements on the rest. You seem really emotionally invested in this place . Could you explain what is preventing you from redeeming it ?? . Supposedly you have a collective of people , pool your money and redeem it . You do understand that this building will be bid up way over $20,000 and the people who buy it will not be deterred by neighborhood residents hurt feelings. On the contrary , anyone who buys this building will get insurance immediately and if there is a fire or vandalism , the perpetrators would be doing the buyer a favor , as he will get paid by the insurance company and make a huge profit without doing anything whatsoever .

I want to add, I have no interest whatsoever in purchasing this building . I just cannot understand why you dont redeem it . problem solved .

Citibankmanhattan, chase and bizzness, I'm assuming you all have the money and so this seems simple to you. If you wish to donate any of it to us please do because we are working to pool the money together to redeem the building as we are not gainfully employed. Thank you.

After some simple research, I found this whole story by Jeanofarc inaccurate. This building isn't the headquarters of the GRCC. The GRCC wasn't started by MIMS. The GRCC was started by the owner of 4731 Gallery (www.grccdetroit.com). Also, read the local news for confirmation. Not sure if this story by Jeanofarc is an attempt to throw off bidders with a sad story but I'll be bidding. Let the best bid win!

PS. I also support the GRCC effort and will continue to after I win the auction.

that is so sad and i figure the same i got a email from mr mims instead of jean then i seen the exercise website that in his signature then did my research and after riding by the place i see mr mims logo on the top of the building smh i will be bidding also and if i so happen to win or u mr anonymous i want to talk to u a bout building this thing out please and thank u bizzcorp@yahoo.com

jeanofarc:

This is a misunderstanding, Coach MIMS is working in cooperation with 4731 with the murals as a chief organizer of the GRCC and he is the one who fixed it up for use and runs programs there. Other organizers are using 4309 such as an event today giving free immunization shots for pets, its all over facebook.
I am working with them to try and save it and at the same time we are planning to bid as well just incase we can't fix it in time. There seems to be also a problem with the taxes they have been paying to the city not being properly applied and they are currently working the issue out with the county. I don't know if we will be able to get it pulled by Monday morning or soon thereafter, We found someone that can bid on it for us and are scrambling the money together to try and outbid because we are concerned. Please note that if you win over us on this one and we are not able to get it removed you will find yourself sharing; because you will only own one of 3 separate deeds. The building is all open inside, shared space whereas the other 2 parcels are redeemable by MIMS before it hits future auctions.

citibankmanhattan:

This building is not split into 3 parcels . It is split in 2 parcels. The third parcel is vacant land in between this building and the next building. I went here the other day because I was curious about some of the claims. I talked to some neighborhood residents and asked if they would be terribly upset if I won the auction and bought the property . No one voiced any opposition to me winning the auction . So I think its cool for anyone to bid .
